ARTIST STATEMENT

"Curiosity and wonder motivate my life and my art. My paintings are an authentic, heartfelt communication of my experience; they represent how we can navigate this confusing, complex world.

My parents, both talented artists, encouraged my creativity, which grew into a reliable companion as my family moved to a series of new and unfamiliar places. I attended UC Santa Cruz where I studied painting, sculpture, and environmental studies. For much of my adult life I worked as a carpenter and draftsman, in addition to building large ceramic wall sculptures for homes and offices. Then I fell in love with paint, and with the process of adding layer upon layer, creating planes and lines of connection or division. My work is focused on how disparate parts are held together. I’m fascinated by how line, color, and form can create a visual aesthetic which touches others."
